If we look from a satellite view we will see our Earth is full of water. We do have 326 million trillion gallons of water. It’s in the form of ice, liquid, vapor. But a lot of people don’t know that 97% of the water is salt water, which people can’t drink. Only 3% is fresh, drinkable water. But their is a twist, because among the 3% only 1%is liquid and the other 2% is frozen. Also among the 1% only 0.3% is easily accessible and also most of the water is ground water among the 1%. A lot of people will think this is the reason of water crisis.
It’s expensive to get water from under ground. A lot of people can’t afford it. So, things are not as easy as it look. Besides we are over using ground water and as a result ground water level is decreasing by one meter every year. Which is alarming because after a few year their will be shortage of ground water. So, this is why we have to save water. We have to be aware of everything.

In 2018 Cape town of South Africa almost ran out of water. Even government ha restricted water uses. Not only in cape town but also in different part of India and Africa people walk miles just to get a bucket of water. Even big cities like London, Melbourne, Tokyo, Mexico, Dhaka, Islamabad, different cities if India, Dharan and a lot other are facing water crisis. But we are not aware of it. We are wasting fresh water all time. Textile and agriculture use ground water massively. Agriculture industry is using 70% of fresh water. And textile is 2nd in the list. On the other hand we are buying lots of cloths without thinking about it even if we don’t need it.
How to prevent water waste:
Small actions of ours can change a lot of thing. If we use water wisely we can reverse the situation. Small action like turning of taps off when brushing, using less flow of water in shower and while washing cloths, taking short bath can make changes.
Instead of using massive water in agriculture we should support smart agriculture. We can use drip irrigation instead of directly watering.
Harvesting rain water is another solution. If one is not comfortable in drinking rain harvested water they can use it for other work.
Lastly raising awareness is the most important part. If we follow all these steps and inspire other to do so. We can save a lot of water in total.
Pollution of water:
We have access to only 1% of liquid water. River and surface water plays a vital rules in it. But we are polluting it this is why we are depending on ground water. Few years ago people used to drink river water. Now many of these river water are not drinkable, even on top of that many are biologically dead. Yangtze, Yellow, Pearl, Ganga, Buriganga etc are such rivers. People used to live near river for agricultural purpose. But now also for agriculture ground water is used.
Manly industries are treating river as dump yard. They throw toxic, wastage, chemical directly into the river. As a result we can find lead in some of the water sources. Lead is very dangerous because it can cause brain damage, even children can die because of drinking lead mixed water. Those who can’t access safe and fresh water. They are drinking this poisonous water. As a result 3.5 million people die because of waterborne diseases every single year. On top of that most of them are children.
Result of our action:
We are using a lot of water without even realizing. To manufacture a Coca-Cola we need almost 35 liter of water. To prepare a cup of coffee we need 130 liter of water. Also each person use 100+ liter daily. So, water is everything. From our cloth, to toothbrush, to produce food and to do everything we need water. And we are polluting and wasting is continuously. This is why according to expert by 2040 the whole world will face water crisis. Also the number of waterborne diseases will increase. A lot of people will die as a result. Now in many places people walk miles to get water. But in future maybe almost everyone has to do this.
conclusion
Many scientist and engineers are working on innovative solution like desalination. Which means they are trying to turn seawater into drinkable water. But it’s very expensive. So a lot of people can’t afford it just like a lot of people can’t afford ground water. Honestly we still have time to protect our future and Earth. Because without water human, animals will die and eventually trees will die also. We should be careful about our water usage and make other aware about it. Also we have to held accountable big industries and companies because they are causing the highest amount of damage.
